Omicron History

  • 1973 Omicron started as a sole proprietorship out of a house in Warren. Initial business model was custom electronic design and fabrication.
  • 1976 Omicron becomes a pioneer in using the Apple II for test stands and data acquisition systems.
  • 1982 Autodesk was started by 13 programmers led by John Walker and Dan Drake
  • 1983 Omicron moves to present location, a 6,000 square foot industrial building.
  • 1984 Omicron becomes an Authorized Reseller for AutoCAD
  • 1988 AutoCAD R10 ships. AutoCAD has an installed base of 150,000 users. A Macintosh version of AutoCAD R10 ships.
  • 1990 Omicron mails its first newsletter to 2000 customers and prospects.
  • 1991 Martha Tattan, the co-founder of Omicron, is lost in a tragic car accident.
  • 1992 AutoCAD R11 ships and becomes the first version to support Windows
  • 1993 AutoCAD R12 ships and is the last version to support Macintosh
  • 1999 AutoDesk ships the first version of Inventor, full 3D mechanical design software.
  • 2000 The World's computers did not stop working (remember the Y2K scare?)
  • 2001 AutoCAD 2002 ships.
  • 2002 Mechanical Desktop is bundled with Inventor in the Inventor Series 5.3
  • 2003 AutoCAD 2004 ships. Omicron becomes an ASC Autodesk System Center.
  • 2007 AutoCAD 2004 retired. Inventor 2008 ships, the Autodesk "flagship" 3D design suite.
  • 2008 Omicron partners with Vivek Systems selling and supporting Autodesk Mechanical software.

Mike Tattan, founder and CEO of Omicron Electronics. Mike has had decades of experience in industrial electronic design, repair, has been an Apple certified technician in the early days of Apple Computer and has taught electronics at Macomb Community College.
